Of Montreal re-record “The Past is a Grotesque Animal” for a Spike Jonze short film

The 12-minute of Montreal monster jam “The Past Is a Grotesque Animal” isn’t exactly fresh out of the oven; the track appeared on the 2007 album Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?. But the band is still gearing up to release the song as a 12″ single on July 27 viaPolyvinyl. The twist: As its B-side, the single features a new version of the song made for the Spike Jonze short film/Absolut vodka ad I’m Here.

In the movie, a robot band called the Lost Trees plays the song. Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes remade the song with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and members of theMoonrats.

The new single is limited to 500 copies, and it comes on light blue 180-gram vinyl, with a hand silk-screened cover from Gemini Tactics.

Smashing Pumpkins release the 3rd track from Teargarden by Kaleidyscope – a Stitch in Time

“A Stitch in Time” is as psychedelic as the album’s title itself, a stoned minstrel folk track that sounds like Corgan filled out his new Pumpkins with hired guns from the Elephant 6 collective. – Rolling Stone Magazine

I don’t know if I agree with all that, but it’s still a pretty sweet song.

the Steve GütenBAND is a psychedelic pop band from Boston, Massachusetts. Comprised of childhood friends!!!, Eric Blackman (vocals, trumpet, guitar, keyboards), Brian Vatcher (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Chris Wood (bass guitar) and Ellert Michael Ellertsson (drums), the Steve GütenBAND wrote, arranged and co-produced their first LP in 2006, the aptly-titled Sweetness Overflow. The songs “Pawtucket Patriot” and “Pleasant Descent” filled the airwaves of local radio, while the epic album closer “P.U.N.intendo” clocks in at over ten minutes and is one of the group’s most ambitious pieces of music to date. The alliteration of these song titles is coincidental, however, as no other songs on the record begin with the letter “P.”

the Steve GütenBAND have entered a new STAGE of their musical adventure!!!, drawing from their mutual love of the Beatles, Beach Boys and the Elephant 6 Recording Company to create new songs for a new era..
